Freshening up between baths

Rubbing rinse-free foam into a beagle's coat

Most dogs only need a real bath every few weeks. In between, a few easy habits keep them fresh without drying out their skin.

Easy habits

  1. Brush a few times a week. It lifts dust and loose hair, and spreads the coat's natural oils.
  2. Spot clean with a rinse-free foam. Paws, legs, belly and bum: foam, rub in, towel off.
  3. Wash the bedding. A smelly dog bed makes a clean dog smell again fast.
  4. Dry after rain. A damp coat is where most "wet dog" smell comes from.
  5. Wipe ears and face folds gently with a soft, dry cloth.

When a rinse-free won't cut it

Rolled in something? Swam in a pond? That's a bath day.
